About this event
Dreaming of a hopeful bright future, 26 immigrants from Okinawa disembarked the S.S. China at Honolulu Harbor on January 8, 1900, marking the beginning of Okinawan immigration to Hawaii. Kyuzo Toyama – the “Father of Okinawa Immigration” – through activism, cleared a path for Okinawan pioneers to pursue new horizons in foreign lands outside of Asia, including those who landed here in Hawaii –- our honorable and brave Issei ancestors.
2025 marks the 125th anniversary of Okinawan global immigration. Join us in commemorating this milestone by being a part of our 125th Anniversary Commemorative booklet, “Miree Ya Kugani: A Bright Hopeful Future.” This publication will honor our early pioneers, celebrate the milestones of our ancestors, and be dedicated to our present and future generations to come.
We humbly ask for your support and participation in this publication by placing an advertisement in our special 125th commemorative booklet. Your contribution will help preserve and promote our cherished Okinawan culture down through future generations.
