The 43rd Okinawan Festival commemorates the 125th Anniversary of Okinawan immigration to Hawaii. The celebration brings the largest delegation from Okinawa in the 43 years of the Festival, including Governor Denny Tamaki and mayors from 40 of Okinawa’s 41 municipalities.
A major highlight of the Festival will be the Hawaii-Okinawa Forum, scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on the 3rd Floor, Meeting Room 311, with seating for 250 attendees. The Forum is free but registration is required. Sign up link will be made available shortly.
Panelists include Governor Tamaki (Okinawa Prefectural Government), former Gov David Ige (Hawaii Government), Lynn Miyahira (East-West Center), and Mark Higa (HUOA).
Following the Forum, in the same room, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm, we will host a Kouryu Kai (meet and greet session) to allow the Okinawan mayors and officials to connect with HUOA officers, and Sister City representatives. To facilitate these introductions, mayors or their designates will hold banners identifying their city, town or village allowing HUOA members to find their counterparts efficiently.
After the Kouryuu Kai, everyone is invited downstairs to participate in the Bon Dance festivities downstairs, which will begin at 6:00 pm.
