KANEGUSUKU SONJIN KAI . . . by Ed Kino

Kanegusuku Sonjin Kai celebrated its 75th anniversary at Victoria Inn on February 11 with over 160 people in attendance. The program consisted of balloon sculpturing by Kento of Hawaiian Flying Balloons, entertainment by the Hawaii Taiko Kai, and Okinawan music and dances by Grant Murata Sensei’s Afuso-ryu Hawaii Sandaa Kai and the Tamagusuku Ryu Senju Kai Frances Nakachi Ryubu Dojo. Capping off the entertainment was kachashi by Kanegusuku’s president — me! — and members. Emcee Masuo Kino drew lucky number door prizes for Russel Kino, including a two-head Panasonic VCR, 4-head Panasonic VCR for Sharon Quitan, 20-inch Panasonic stereo TV for Mrs. Sadako Oshiro, and a Sony DVD player for Masaru Oshiro. Seventy-five years young Mrs. Carol Shinozawa received a birthday gift, and members enjoyed the five different birthday cakes commemorating 75 years since our club was established in 1926 — the eighth oldest Okinawan club in Hawaii!
