HUOA GOES CYBER: www.huoa.org
by Ronald Miyashiro (Club Kobashigawa)
Chair, HUOA Computer Subcommittee

The Hawaii United Okinawa Association’s website — www.huoa.org — is up and running, thanks to volunteers on the HUOA’s Computer Subcommittee. The website was originally created in 1996, but was dormant for several years. On April 1, www.huoa.org. was reactivated after weeks of hard work by the committee. The site makes it possible for the HUOA to communicate with the Okinawan community statewide as well as with Uchinanchu on the Mainland, in Okinawa and wherever in the world there are people interested in things Okinawan in Hawaii.

Included in the website is information about the HUOA and its activities, last year’s Uchinanchu of the Year honorees, and articles from the Uchinanchu newsletter. The schedule for our weekly television show, "Hawaii Okinawa Today," is also posted on the website.

www.huoa.org is on-line thanks to the hard work and creative talents of Darwin Uesato, Shanti Honda, Donna Isara, Donna Shiroma-Nakasue, Shari Tamashiro, Jon Arakawa, Karen Kuba-Hori, George Miyashiro and Terence Tomori. Henry Isara and Gary Honda of the Communication and Information Committee have played active roles in formulating the website.

In keeping with President Jimmy Iha’s theme, "Yui nu Kukuru — Uchinanchu Spirit With Hearts Together," and the belief that the strength of the HUOA comes from its member clubs and their members, we invite the HUOA clubs and the Okinawan cultural schools and associations to share information with us which can be included in the website. We also invite our HUOA member clubs to use the website to communicate with their members.

The HUOA website will evolve as time progresses: more information will be added. A genealogy section is also in the works. We also plan to add links to other Okinawan-oriented websites.

Anyone interested in working on the website can call the HUOA at 676-5400 or e-mail us at info@huoa.org.
